Little Grebe

Right under the Tichfield Haven Nature Reserve and no fishing sign was a parent Little Grebe (Dabchick) fishing for a youngster diving down then popping to the surface with a small fish. The young bird was having a go to fishing but popped up with out any food.

The Little grebe is a small, dumpy grebe, which is between 23 to 29 cm in length. It readily dives when disturbed, surfacing some distance away. It can be noisy, with a distinctive trill. Found across the UK on lakes canals,slow rivers and sheltered coastal estuaries.
