The Black Tower

Kimmeridge Bay is south-west of the village of Kimmeridge via a toll road on the Jurassic Coast. On the headland is a folly called Clavell Tower a Tuscan style tower built-in 1830. The failing condition of Clavell Tower was the inspiration for P. D. James’s prize-winning 1975 novel The Black Tower. The grade 2 listed tower has recently been restored.
