House Sparrow

Noisy and often overlooked little bird. From the RSPB website “Monitoring suggests a severe decline in the UK house sparrow population, recently estimated as dropping by 71 per cent between 1977 and 2008 with substantial declines in both rural and urban populations. Whilst the decline in England continues, Breeding Bird Survey data indicate recent population increases in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.” Although I have noted in recent years a return of this little bird around us. 2. We do have a plethora of sparrows here and they seem hardy as I often seem them in the Winter. I think the sparrows are the birds that sit on the window ledge behind the bedroom windows and sing very early in the morning.
