Birds at the Castle

castle birds

Dunbar Castle is a ruin it overlooks the little fishing harbour the castle is nothing special but the birds love it, the ruined walls mimic a cliff which makes an artificial nest site for a colony of Kittiwakes.

The Kittiwake is a delicate looking medium-sized gull with a small yellow bill and a dark eye. It has a grey back and is white underneath. Its legs are short and black. The name is derived from its call, a shrill ‘kittee-wa-aaake, kitte-wa-aaake’
