Christmas walk at Mottisfont

Mottisfont Abbey is sited on the River Test and originally founded as an Augustinian priory in 1201, Some of the original priory vaults remain under the main house. The building was in a poor state when society hostess and art lover Maud Russell and her banker husband Gilbert, purchased Mottisfont in 1934. They modernised the house and estate. With Maud Russell’s guidance many of the  rooms were reconfigured and redecorated. The overall look was Neo-classical  with faux marbling and pastel shades.
