St Illtyd Church

St Illtyd Church Llantrithyd is situated in the centre of the rural Vale of Glamorgan some half way between Cardiff and Cowbridge but off the main roads. The church dates from about 1500.

Inside of the church is a massive family altar tomb to John Bassett and his wife Elizabeth (dated 1554 for his death and 1596 for hers.) It retains its colourful paint and gilded detailing and shows him in armour laying next to his wife together in prayer.

Next to the church are the derelict ruins of what was Llantrithyd Place, a 16th century manor house. (It is not open to the public).
